Hi Folks,
As our Indoor Kids League groups grow, we thought it would be a good time for us to discuss behavior expectations.
When your child comes to a program, it is expected that they stay in the program for the duration. But, kids are kids, need to stretch their legs, get bored and want to take advantage of other things the library has to offer. Which we love! But we want to be clear that when your child leaves a program, they’re on their own and expected to follow the same guidelines we ask of all patrons. Per library policy, we cannot act “in loco parentis” as a school may do.
So moving forward, we would like to ask for your help in setting expectations of behavior with your child(ren). We’ll be talking with our groups on Tuesday, but hope you can relay this information to them as well. Please let them know that if they’re attending a program, and choose to leave the program but not the library, that they should find a quiet spot to read or color (we have coloring books), or talk quietly with friends. Computers can be used, but it should be a quieter game or activity, however priority will be given to our adult patrons who may need our computers to work.
They can also use our phones to call for a ride. While we will encourage them to find a quiet activity, if they are causing disruptions for other patrons, we will contact an adult to pick them up early.
We love how many children are taking advantage of all that the library offers and appreciate you taking the time to talk with them so that the library is an enjoyable place for all.
See you soon,
BFPL Staff
